Kuniyoshi shini-e (i.e., death/memorial) print  of

Iwai Hanshiro IV published by Edo-ya Matsugoro in 1836.

Private collection.

An expert wrote to me to inform me that he knows of five different shini-e by Kuniyoshi dedicated to the actor Iwai Hanshiro IV, but all published by different publishers.   For me this says something not only about the popularity of an actor who was truly going to be missed, but also about the popularity of the artist Kuniyoshi.
